World Optometry Day – MEGA EVENT 2 was celebrated in a grand way in the presence of dignitaries, 33 faculties from different colleges, 550 optometry students and 50 practitioners. The event was organized by Hari Jyot College of Optometry in Navsari, Gujarat.

 

The function was started with the prayer of Lord Ganesha and welcome dance. Special tribute was performed to Late Mr. Viral Purohit who was a Chairman of Hari Jyot College of Optometry and this event was HIS dream. Chairman – Mr. Yogesh Naik welcomed all the guests and students and invited dignitaries for formal opening of the event. After lightening the lamp by the dignitaries, speech was given by the Vice Chancellor of VNSGU, Surat.

 

Educational sessions were started with the speeches given by Dr. R. Krishnakumar on why we need to do Research, Prof. Monica Chaudhry on OCI as well as on Difficult situations in Refractions, Mr. Nilesh Thite on Get Rid of The Box and Dr. Manoj Kahar on Blood.

 

Next session was of Oral Presentation by the students. 10 out of 28 presentations were selected by the selection committee. Students presented their talk with visual aids. They presented so well. During the lunch break students of various institute has presented scientific posters. Next session was of a Video Presentation. This was a unique idea of presenting the technique in optometry suggested by Mr. Chinmay Deshpande of Bharti Vidyapeeth, Pune. Total 10 videos were selected out of 20 by the selection committee. The way, students created and presented the videos indeed needs appreciation.

 

Next session was of cultural events comprising of solo dances, retro dance and group dance followed by musical evening for entertainment and fun.

 

March 22 was stared with different workshops yearwise. There were workshops on Dispensing Optics, Silicon Hydrogel, Rose K and Sports Vision. For first year students, there was a competition poster and model presentation on Eye Anatomy.

 

World Optometry day 2015 has given an academic learning process by arranging workshops. All workshops were creative, innovative and knowledgeable. Hari Jyot College of Optometry has been approved as an accredited continuing education provider in eye care by Optometry Council of India (OCI). All the OCI members attending Mega Event 2  will get 5 CE points.

 

Next session was conducted on Optometry Quiz by Bausch and Lomb. Out of 12 colleges, 4 colleges were selected from prequiz round. Questions asked during quiz were on General Knowledge, General Optometry and Contact Lens related questions.

 

Prize distribution were performed for all the competitions held during the event. Vote of thanks was performed by Mr. Nirav Mehta – Principal In Charge of Hari Jyot College of Optometry. He recognized support of each and every small help by the faculties as well as by the students.

 

Thus, with the support and co-ordination of all college faculties, students and of course the staff of Rotary Eye Institute, MEGA EVENT 2 was celebrated successfully.

 

The event was supported by Biomedix Devices, Alcon Vision, Bauch and Lomb, Essilor, Pooja Optics-Vapi, Mauijim, Subset System and Navsari District Optical Association.
