Visit to Kolkata
On the 3rd of September, OCI operations manager Ms. Paula Mehta representative visited 2 renowned colleges of Optometry in Kolkata. Vidyasagar College of Optometry and NSHM Knowledge Campus.
The purpose of visit was mainly to present activities of the self regulatory council and interact with young optometry students and other professional bodies such as (IOF and ASCO) for the upliftment of Optometry as a profession.
The HOD Mr Debasish Kar also invited Mr Sougata Chatterjee, eastern India representative of IOF and member of Optometry Association of India (OAI) joined by Mr Babu Lal Agarwal, also a member of OAI .
Students were quite enthusiastic and asked questions. Studying and working abroad was an important question. They also asked about continuing education and renewal. Many were interested on the OPTOMETRIST LOCATOR Portal too .
NSHM, Kolkata Campus
Mr Soumendra Nath Ghosh, HOD of NSHM Kolkata campus, gave a warm welcome to Ms. Paula. First, second and third year optometry students of the Kolkata campus were present. . An hour long interactive session with the students went on with students asking questions regarding Continuing education and credit point systems and benefits of joining OCI.
The outcome of the visit was a great response from both the colleges, with all third years willing to register with OCI
A total of 50 applications from both the colleges are expected.
