Optometry Council of India in association with Mission for Vision and Essilor Vision Foundation undertook a project of “Screening School Bus Driver’s” in all the 4 branches of Delhi Public School, Bengaluru. The first screening was conducted on 16th, 17th and 18th of January, in DPS North branch. In total 285 people were screened including drivers, attendees, housekeeping staffs and security personnel’s. The screening examination was done by optometrists from Sankara College of Optometry, Bengaluru. Essilor Vision Foundation will provide free spectacles to those who require spectacle correction.
Out of the 285 screened, 178 people had refractive errors, 5 had some form of colour vision deficit and 2 had constricted field of vision. 18 were referred to hospital for further evaluation as there was no improvement with spectacle correction.
Optometry Council of India intends to extend this project in others schools, in a PAN India mode, along with the support of Mission for Vision ad Essilor Vision Foundation.
